Fish Carving Competition in the Great Lakes Region
Grand Rapids, Michigan March 16-18, 2012

I am pleased to announce a new fish carving competition centered in the heart of the awesome Great Lakes region at Grand Rapids, Michigan. This exciting new venue for carvers is being added to the already highly successful Michigan Taxidermy Association show and competition held March 16-18. (which just happens to coincide with a large steelhead run up the Grand River) Having judged the fish taxidermy at the MTA show several times I know that this quality show is extremely well run and is highly attended.

Part of what makes this show so special is that it is also held in conjunction with the Ultimate Sport Fishing and RV Show. I am told that this large fishing/outdoor recreation show will annually draw in upwards of 70,000 people so this should make taxidermists and fish carvers alike sit up and take notice. I know of no other venue anywhere where carvers can get this kind of excellent exposure to their art. And if that`s not enough for you to see and do the local carving club the Woodland Carvers Association annual show is also under the same roof and fills a large room with beautiful carvings of all types.

While recognizing that this carving show is still in its infancy, I`m convinced that all the pieces are in place to someday grow into a very successful, competitive and educational fish carving competition. This year, I will be giving a seminar on fish painting at the MTA show that should interest the carvers and I`ve also agreed to help jump start the show by donating a hands-on fish head carving workshop on March 13-14. In addition, rumor has it that World Champion Josh Guge will also be giving a seminar at the MTA show. For more information on any of the shows or educational opportunities go to www.clarkschreibeis.com or MTA President Joe Miles at (517) 795-3810.
